Eating out on the Norfolk Coast
The north Norfolk coast is full of delightful and welcoming places to eat using plenty of locally sourced produce and seafood. Whether you are looking for a family friendly gastropub for lunch, a café with a view or a special treat - there is something for everyone and we thought we would share our top ten favourite pubs with you to kick off summer. Half term is just around the corner so hurry and book now to avoid disappointment. Showing our local support for local businesses has never been more important and we hope you are able to enjoy some of our suggestions below.
The Dun Cow, Salthouse
This is quite simply wonderful with outstanding views across the salt marshes and a great garden for children to run around in. Friendly staff, good locally sourced, seasonal food at reasonable prices and a good children's menu too.
The George and Dragon, Cley
This has recently changed hands and had a revamp. Receiving great reviews with a simple, well thought out menu using locally sourced ingredients. This is definitely worth a visit.
Wiveton Bell, Wiveton
A firm favourite in one of north Norfolk's prettiest villages. They have been awarded a Bib Gourmand in Norfolk, which means high quality delicious food at an affordable price. Pretty gardens at the front and back, overlooking the church. Norfolk at its finest.
The Kings Head, Letheringsett
Just outside Holt, another lovely pub for lunch with the family or a more grown up evening inside, with an inviting bar and homely interiors. An eclectic wine list, local beers and large selection of local handcrafted gins, with a 'gin of the week' on the board. Serving great food with an emphasis on the menu using locally sourced, seasonal and sustainable ingredients.
Jolly Sailors, Brancaster Staithe
A fun buzzy family pub with a great atmosphere, particularly during the summer months. Affordable family pub grub using locally sourced ingredients.
The Hero, Burnham Overy
Just five miles from Burnham Market, this laid back, lively, dog and children friendly pub serves really good food using locally sourced ingredients. Ticks all the boxes and highly recommended.
Anchor Inn, Morston
This is family owned and always been a favourite with locals and visitors but be warned, it gets hugely busy so book early. Classic pub dishes using as much locally-sourced produce as possible. The Hoste Arms, Burnham Market
In the middle of the picturesque Georgian town Burnham Market, The Hoste is a perfect spot for people watching outside overlooking the central green and also has a wonderful sheltered walled garden at the back. The menu is a reflection of the north Norfolk coast using seasonal and locally sourced ingredients with lots of good seafood. Perfect for lunch with family and friends or a more grown up dinner in the evening.
The Victoria Inn, Holkham
Stunning location, just a walk away from the most beautiful beach and Holkham Hall, a Palladian family home. The Victoria Inn has a great team of friendly staff and a delicious menu, using the estate's own and locally sourced ingredients. Lots of local beers and a good wine list too. Dog and children friendly with a cosy interior and plenty of outside space.
The Lifeboat Inn, Thornham
Traditional country pub serving delicious locally sourced and seasonal dishes. An excellent choice for a lunchtime visit in combination with a walk along the coastal path. For anyone inclined, this is also close to some of the top bird watching sites.
